Retention Policies and Site Assets

We have a question regarding Retention Policies and site assets. Our client wants a retention policy that applies to all sites in the organization to clear out any data that has not been modified in 3 years if it has not been tagged with a retention label. The concern relates to the site assets library. We understand that loose files in this location are eligible to be deleted. However, they do not want to lose any true site assets (homepage, thumbnail logo, pages, etc.) as these items are rarely touched by end users but key components in the backend of the site's appearance and navigation. We wanted to confirm what does or doesn't get deleted by the policy (if conditions are met)? Are any Pages, Homepage, Logos/Thumbnails, Teams OneNote notebooks exempt from the policy, or are they eligible to be deleted? The AI Assist says that they are exempt, but the article linked states no such thing.

Per my knowledge, when a retention policy is applied to a site and takes effect, all contents in this site will be deleted, including pages, homepage, logo thumbnails, Teams OneNote and etc.

The available way is to backup all contents you want to reserve before the retention policy takes effect.

The retention policy would delete all files in document libraries, including automatically created SharePoint document libraries such as Site Assets, that have not been modified in 3 years and have not been tagged with a retention label. However, pages, homepage, logos/thumbnails, and Teams OneNote notebooks are not considered loose files and are not included in the retention policy. Therefore, they are exempt from the policy and will not be deleted.
